course title: Introduction to Legal Research and Writing

lecturer: Anushila Shaw

course description

This course provides an overview of the topics traditionally covered in a first-year legal research and writing course. Professor Shaw will teach you how to write a case brief, including the structure of a brief, as well as how to interpret procedural history and how to distinguish between holdings and dicta; how to apply the CREAC/IREAC method; and the basics of Bluebook citation. In addition, the course navigates students through the two most important writing assignments in a typical first-year legal writing course: the inter-office legal memo and the appellate brief.
