A survey of the law of property. This course investigates the right of real property ownership, including the right to exclude and freedom of alienation; the law of nuisance; airspace, mineral, water and support rights; eminent domain; and zoning. The course examines the various types of estates in law, as well as future interests, easements, real covenants and equitable servitudes. The landlord-tenant relationship will also be explored, including rights and duties, assignment and sublease, and the creation and termination of leases. Lastly, the course will focus on the treatment of personal property under the law, such as lost and found property, bailments, gifts, and fixtures. This course is intended for first-year law students and assumes no prior knowledge of property law.
