The Puerto Rico bar exam assesses whether an examinee is competent to practice law in the Territory of Puerto Rico. Passing the bar exam is an essential step in becoming a lawyer in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico Bar Exam Format
The Puerto Rico bar exam is a two-day exam that tests examinees’ knowledge in the following areas of law:
- federal civil procedure,
- federal evidence,
- federal jurisdiction and venue,
- federal criminal procedure,
- local rules,
- federal appellate procedure,
- bankruptcy, and
The examination also includes an essay question to verify examinees’ certification of their ability to read, write, and understand the English language.

Registration Filing Deadlines

The regular application fee for the Puerto Rico bar exam is $300. For more details on fees, visit the District Court of Puerto Rico's website.
Puerto Rico bar examination results are available approximately four to six weeks after the administration of the exam.
The Committee on Admissions, via the United States District for the District of Puerto Rico, is the organization responsible for overseeing admission to the bar in Puerto Rico. It is through this board that you will register for the bar exam, receive exam information, and obtain your score.
