Indiana CLE requirements

What is my requirement as a Indiana-licensed attorney?

Indiana attorneys must complete 36 credits every 3 years. At least 6 credits must be completed each year. Three of the 36 credits must be ethics credits.

How can Quimbee help me complete my CLE requirement?

Indiana attorneys can complete all of their CLE requirement through Quimbee's on-demand courses and live webcasts. If the course is not already approved, attorneys can self-apply for the course through the Indiana Courts Portal.

How else can I earn CLE credit?

  • Attend approved live, in-person courses. 
  • Attend law school courses at a law school approved by the American Bar Association. Complete a bar review course. 
  • Complete a Commission-Accredited Basic Mediation Training course. Attend Court Administration Courses. 
  •  Attend ethics-concentrated law firm management courses concentrating on trust accounting, ethical client contact, and ethical use of staff and resources. 
  • Teach or prepare materials for approved courses. 
  • Attend approved courses in Non Legal Subject Matter (NLS), such as medicine, wellness, accounting, etc.

When must I complete my CLE requirement?

Indiana attorneys must complete their requirement by December 31 every 3 years.

Can I carry over credit from my last reporting cycle?

No, carryover is not allowed.


Newly Admitted Attorneys

I'm a new attorney. When do I report CLE credit?

Newly admitted Indiana attorneys begin their educational period on January 1 following their year of admission. Newly admitted attorneys must complete an approved Applied Professionalism Program for Newly Admitted Attorneys.


CLE compliance and reporting

When do I report the CLE credits that I have earned?

Around September 1 of each year, Indiana attorneys will receive a notice that shows their current CLE status. Any required documentation must be submitted by December 31.

How do I report the CLE credits that I have earned?

Sponsors are responsible for reporting attendance to the Indiana Commission for CLE. Attorneys may also report their credits by logging into the Indiana Courts Portal.

How to self-apply

For courses that are not pre-approved, Indiana attorneys can self-apply for credit by logging into the Indiana Courts Portal. Start in the “My Continuing Education” section, and click “Report legal education credits."

How much time do I have to complete the courses in my compliance bundle?

Once you purchase a course, you can complete it any time you like. You will have access to a purchased course until its accreditation expires.

If a course is accredited in more than one state, is there an extra cost to receive certificates in all states?

Quimbee will issue certificates for attorneys licensed in multiple jurisdictions at no extra cost. We will only issue certificates for jurisdictions in which a course has been approved.

How do I receive my certificate once I’ve completed my course?

Once you complete a course, your certificate will be available for automatic download. We’ll also save all of your certificates in your account so that you can access them any time you need to.
