Most legal writing is technical, academic, or expository. Technical legal writing creates and defines legal rights and responsibilities; it alters the legal landscape by its own force. Technical writing includes primary authorities like statutes, administrative regulations, and so on. It also includes most transactional documents—contracts, deeds, wills, trusts, insurance policies, and the like.
