CAFA

Definition

An act passed by Congress in 2005 to increase federal courts’ jurisdiction over large class action lawsuits. The CAFA allows a defendant to remove the case against him to federal court if (1) there is minimal diversity, meaning any member of the plaintiff class and any defendant are not citizens of the same state, and (2) the total amount in question is more than $5,000,000.
