Family and Medical Leave Act

Definition

A federal law requiring covered employers to offer eligible employees unpaid, job-protected leave for up to 12 workweeks per year in the event of childbirth; adoption; a serious health condition suffered by the employee, the employee’s spouse, child, or parent; or certain incidents involving the employee’s immediate family member in active military service.
