Definition

A rule of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure allowing a defendant, either by right or by leave of court depending on timing, to implead a third party who is or may be liable to such defendant for a claim asserted against it and setting forth rules relating to claims and defenses by such third-party defendant and the original plaintiff.
