Tamura Safeguards

Definition

[from United States v. Tamura, 694 F.2d 591 (1982)] Procedures set forth that should be followed when executing a search warrant for data that is mingled with other data not subject to the warrant. Simply seizing all records for later inspection is not acceptable; such records should be sealed and held until a further search warrant or magistrate approval is obtained. Specific safeguards should be stated in a warrant to seize a large number of records where the object of the warrant is mingled with other records.
