Rule 609(a)(1) of the Federal Rules of Evidence

Definition

Provides that in attacking a witness’s character for truthfulness, a party may inquire about prior felony convictions of a defendant-witness if their probative value outweighs their prejudicial effect, and prior felony convictions of a non-defendant-witness subject to Rule 403.
