Cheyne R. Scott is a civil litigation attorney, Partner, and Chief of Diversity and Inclusion at Chasan Lamparello Mallon & Cappuzzo, P.C. in Secaucus, New Jersey. She concentrates her practice in contracts, governmental entity representation, and labor and employment law; and represents individuals, municipalities, counties, authorities, and school boards in litigation and compliance matters.
Admitted to practice in New Jersey and Michigan, and before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Ms. Scott is the Past President of the Hudson County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and is a Trustee of the Association. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Diversity Committee, the NJSBA Labor and Employment Law Section’s Executive Committee, and was selected by the Association as a 2016-2017 Leadership Academy Fellow. She is also a member of the NJSBA’s Commission on Racial Equity in the Law, a group formed in 2020 to identify methods to address root causes of inequities in the legal profession. Ms. Scott has lectured and presented seminars on labor and employment matters, diversity and inclusion matters. She was also recently named a 2021 SuperLawyers Rising Star.
Ms. Scott is also an active member of the Garden State Bar Association, New Jersey's oldest and largest professional organization for African-American judges, lawyers, and law students, serving on its Board of Directors and is also a Co-Chair of the GSBA Labor and Employment Steering Committee. She was recently named 2021 Professional Lawyer of the Year for the GSBA
Ms. Scott is also a Certified Life Coach and founder of The Spiritual Litigator LLC and has also lectured and written articles about mindfulness and self-care for attorneys. Her article “Mindfulness: A Simpler Way to Alleviate Attorney Stress” was published in the American Bar Association’s GPSOLO Magazine (July/August 2017). She is also the author of “The ABCs of Emotional Health” which appeared in the July 2019 issue of New Jersey Lawyer.
Ms. Scott received her B.A. from Michigan State University and her J.D., cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She served as a Judicial Intern to the Honorable Patrick J. Duggan, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was also Law Clerk to the Honorable Sheila A. Venable, Presiding Judge, Criminal Division, Hudson County, Superior Court of New Jersey.
