Ethan specializes in appellate litigation as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Solicitor General for the District of Columbia. The Office handles litigation for the Office of the Attorney General in the appellate courts, including the D.C. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to this role, Ethan served as Special Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he assisted in the confirmation proceedings of the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal court nominees.

Ethan was also a member of a law firm’s Supreme Court and Appellate practice group, where he handled matters in various federal and state appellate courts, including successfully seeking certiorari before the U.S. Supreme Court in Torres v. Madrid, a Fourth Amendment case heard in the October 2020 Term.

In addition to his current position, Ethan also moonlights as an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. His academic interests include criminal procedure, bioethics, privacy rights, education, and the intersection of law and technology.

Ethan also served as a law clerk to Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Judge John Gleeson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar of the Supreme Court of California.
