Article 3 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms
Definition
Provides that no person shall be tortured or subjected to treatment that is inhumane or degrading. The article has been interpreted as forbidding state parties from returning a person to a country where the person would face such treatment.
