Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001

Definition

Enacted in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the act federalized airport security, which had formerly been handled by private contractors, and established the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to carry out all civil airport security functions.
