Definition

A legal process to reduce or eliminate debts for individuals or corporations that are unable to meet their financial obligations. Certain types of debt can be fully discharged in bankruptcy, but other types of debt cannot be discharged and will be subject to repayment plans. Bankruptcies are handled by the United States Bankruptcy Court.
