Definition

A person who supports one party to a contract by guaranteeing that, in case the party fails to discharge his contractual obligations, the cosigner will perform those obligations in the party’s stead. Often a cosigner is a parent who cosigns on behalf of a minor child or a friend who cosigns on behalf of a party with a poor credit history.
