Definition

A hearing that a taxpayer may request with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Appeals Office to contest the IRS’s tax-collection efforts. An equivalent hearing is similar to a hearing pursuant to a collection due-process petition, except that a taxpayer generally may not obtain judicial review of an equivalent-hearing decision but may obtain judicial review of a collection due-process determination.
