Hit-and-Run Clause

Definition

A provision that typically appears in an auto-insurance policy requiring an uninsured motorist to physically contact the insured or the covered vehicle for uninsured-motorist coverage to apply. Many jurisdictions treat such physical-contact requirements as void and unenforceable because they violate public policy.
