In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

Definition

Literally meaning fertilization outside the body, a form of assisted reproductive technology that collects mature eggs, called ova, and then fertilizes the ova with sperm in a laboratory setting to create embryos. Fertilized ova, also called pre-embryos, can then be implanted into a uterus.
