Definition

(Immigration) Generally, a complex term that represents an infliction of harm based on protected grounds assessed on a case-by-case basis. Persecution has not been statutorily defined in United States asylum law or in the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and circuit courts in the United States have not agreed on a uniform definition. There is no definition that is accepted universally.
