Refugee

Definition

A person who is outside of the person’s home country who is not willing or not able to return to or to make use of protection available in the home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. This definition and associated requirements may vary slightly among countries that have ratified the 1951 Convention on the Status Relating to Refugees.
