Definition

Rules adopted by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2005 to enhance and modernize the national market system. Regulation NMS reorganized the existing rules promulgated pursuant to § 11A of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (Rules 600–609) and added the access-to-quotations rule (Rule 610), the order-protection rule (Rule 611), and the sub-penny rule (Rule 612).
