Request for Information (RFI)

Definition

An RFI is a preliminary step in the government contract process which the government can use gather general ideas and information from the market to help plan a future procurement of goods or services and the requirements for that future procurement. An RFI can be followed by either a Request for Quotations (RFQ) or a Request for Proposals (RFP), and may be followed by both an RFQ and an RFP in sequence.
