Facts
Kosovo was under the control of Serbia. With the help of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Kosovo established a form of government and held parliamentary elections. Kosovo’s legislature then declared its independence from Serbia. The United Nations General Assembly requested an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on whether Kosovo’s declaration of independence was in accordance with international law.
