Facts
American President Lines, Ltd. (American) (plaintiff) entered into a contract with Green Transfer and Storage, Inc. (Green) (defendant). Under the contract, Green was to load shipping containers suitable for shipping over the ocean. The containers loaded by Green were placed on a vessel and shipped to Japan. While in transit, the aluminum cables inside the containers shifted, and the containers were damaged. American sued Green for breach of contract in district court under the theory that the district court had admiralty jurisdiction over the contract.
