Facts
Edwin Brady (plaintiff) held a patent on an invention that consisted of the attachment of a propeller to the forward end of a dredge-boat. The invention was similar to technology that had long been in use. Brady sought to enjoin infringement by Atlantic Works (defendant). The circuit court found in favor of Brady. Atlantic Works appealed. The United States Supreme Court granted certiorari.
