Facts
Bearden (defendant) was ordered to pay certain fines as part of a probation sentence. Bearden failed to pay, but he testified that he did not have the money to pay and had been unable to find a job. The trial court revoked the probation and sentenced Bearden to serve additional time in jail. Bearden petitioned the United States Supreme Court for review.
