Beattie v. CenturyTel, Inc.
United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan
2009 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 113750 (2009)
- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
Barbrasue Beattie (plaintiff) sued CenturyTel, Inc. (defendant) in civil court. Beattie requested production of certain documents that CenturyTel used to prepare one of its employees for a deposition. The apparent reason for the request was to be sure that the witness would have the documents in case they were needed to refresh the witness’s recollection. CenturyTel filed a motion for a protective order, asserting that the documents were protected by the work-product doctrine because the documents were specifically selected by CenturyTel for the deposition preparation.
