Facts
A laptop was stolen from the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Dorn VAMC) (defendant). The laptop contained unencrypted personal information of Dorn VAMC patients, including Richard Beck (plaintiff). Dorn VAMC offered the patients one free year of credit monitoring. Beck filed a putative class-action suit against Dorn VAMC. The district court granted Dorn VAMC’s motion to dismiss for lack of standing. Beck appealed.
