Bouley v. Young-Sabourin
United States District Court for the District of Vermont
394 F. Supp. 2d 675 (2005)

- Written by Darius Dehghan, JD
Facts
Quinn Bouley (plaintiff) and her husband, Daniel Swedo, rented an apartment from Jacqueline Young-Sabourin (defendant). One evening, Swedo physically assaulted Bouley. Less than 72 hours after Bouley was subject to domestic violence, Young-Sabourin sent Bouley a notice to vacate the apartment. Before the domestic-violence incident, there were no complaints relating to Bouley’s tenancy. Bouley brought suit, contending that Young-Sabourin violated the Fair Housing Act (FHA) by engaging in sex discrimination. Both Bouley and Young-Sabourin filed motions for summary judgment. The district court took the motions under advisement.
