Bridges v. Hawkesworth
Court of Queen’s Bench
21 L.J.Q.B. 75, 91 Rev. Rep. 850 (1851)
- Written by Richard Lavigne, JD
Facts
Bridges (plaintiff) found a small package on the floor of a shop owned by Hawkesworth (defendant). After discovering that the package was full of bank notes, Bridges gave the package to Hawkesworth to hold in case the true owner showed up. Three years passed and no one appeared to claim the lost notes. Bridges asked Hawkesworth to return the notes to him. Hawkesworth refused and Bridges filed suit to claim ownership. The lower court ruled in favor of Hawkesworth. Bridges appealed.
