Brown v. Brown
Maryland Court of Appeals
287 Md. 273 (1980)

- Written by Josh Lee, JD
Facts
Ronald Brown (defendant) entered into a marital separation agreement with his former wife Joyce Brown (plaintiff) as part of their divorce. The separation agreement was incorporated into the divorce decree by the court. The separation agreement included an obligation by Ronald to provide child-support payments for his stepdaughter. However, Ronald fell behind on those payments, and Joyce petitioned the court to find Ronald in contempt. The trial court determined that Ronald was in contempt and ordered him to serve a jail sentence of 179 days. Ronald appealed.
