Facts
[Editor’s Note: International Civil Litigation in United States Courts (Gary B. Born & Peter B. Rutledge eds., 6th ed. 2018) erroneously uses “Urban Trends” in the title of the case. The company’s name is “Urban Trend.”] C.S.B. Commodities, Inc. (CSB) (plaintiff) effectuated personal service of process upon Robert Kushner (defendant), an individual, while Kushner was in Illinois. Kushner was voluntarily present in Illinois solely for the activities that led to the complaint. Kushner was served not only individually but also as a representative of a foreign corporation, Urban Trend (HK) Ltd. (Urban Trend) (defendant). Kushner and Urban Trend motioned to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction.
