Chevron Corp. v. Donziger
United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
833 F.3d 74 (2016)
- Written by Sara Adams, JD
Facts
Chevron Corp. (plaintiff) filed a civil claim under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) against Steven Donzinger (defendant) in federal district court. The district court ruled in favor of Chevron and granted Chevron equitable relief. Donzinger appealed, arguing that the judgment against him must be overturned because equitable relief may not be granted to private plaintiffs in a civil RICO claim.
