ClearOne Communications v. Chiang
United States District Court for the District of Utah
2008 WL 920336 (2008)
- Written by Rich Walter, JD
Facts
ClearOne Communications, Inc. (ClearOne) (plaintiff) sued Andrew Chiang and WideBand Solutions, Inc. (WideBand) (defendants) in federal court. ClearOne alleged that WideBand, a small company active in many different tech areas, misappropriated ClearOne’s so-called Honeybee technology. ClearOne moved for an electronic-discovery (e-discovery) order resolving areas of disagreement between the parties. ClearOne opposed WideBand’s desire to limit the pool of keyword-search results by using conjunctive search terms to link employees’ names with specific tech areas. WideBand opposed ClearOne’s desire to add search terms specifically related to Honeybee, fearing that the widened search would result in too much prejudicial evidence reaching the jury.
