Colorado Seminary (University of Denver) v. NCAA
United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit
570 F.2d 320 (1978)
- Written by Mike Begovic, JD
Facts
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) (defendant) imposed sanctions against athletic teams at the University of Denver (UD) (plaintiff). The UD hockey team was placed on a two-year probation and stripped of postseason eligibility, and other UD athletic teams received a one-year probation period. UD and several of the affected student athletes filed suit, alleging violations of due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment. A trial court granted the NCAA’s motion for summary judgment, finding that UD athletes had no constitutionally protected interest at stake.
