Corbett v. Corbett (otherwise Ashley)
England and Wales High Court of Justice
2 All E.R. 33 (1970)
- Written by Darius Dehghan, JD
Facts
April Ashley (defendant) was a biological male who was assigned male at birth. Ashley identified as female, however, and underwent a sex-change operation. After the operation, Ashley married Arthur Corbett (plaintiff), a biological male. At the time of the marriage ceremony, Corbett was aware that Ashley had undergone a sex-change operation. Yet Corbett later filed a petition to annul the marriage because Ashley was a biological male. The England and Wales High Court of Justice took the matter under advisement.
