Darrow and Donnelly v. Taylor Swift and Apple, Inc.
United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts
2015 WL 4498057 (2015)

- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
Travis Darrow and Chris Donnelly (plaintiffs) were prisoners at a state correctional facility in Pennsylvania. Darrow and Donnelly filed a two-page handwritten document with the court entitled “Preliminary Injunction, Temporary Restraining Order TRO 28 U.S.C. § 1331.” Darrow and Donnelly alleged that in 1989 they came up with the idea for the Taylor Swift (defendant) album 1989 and that Swift stole their iPhone and credit cards. Darrow and Donnelly also alleged that in 1989 they were riding bikes next to Swift and Swift put a stick in their spokes to make them fall and then flipped them off. Darrow and Donnelly asked the court to prevent Swift from singing songs and lyrics that offended them. Darrow and Donnelly did not pay the filing fee or submit a motion for waiver of prepayment. Swift was born in 1989.
