Facts
DIRECTV, Inc. (DIRECTV) (plaintiff) obtained shipping records showing that Barrett and others (defendants) had purchased devices to intercept, decrypt, and pirate its television signal. DIRECTV sued the defendants in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, alleging that the defendants had violated federal law and seeking identical relief from each. The defendants moved to sever the claims against each defendant.
