Brook Dore (plaintiff) was hired by Arnold Worldwide, Inc. (AWI) (defendant). Dore alleged that all discussions leading up to his employment led him to believe that he would be employed by AWI for a long time. However, the employment contract that Dore signed stated that Dore’s employment was at-will and may be terminated at any time. After Dore’s employment was terminated without cause, he brought suit, claiming that the phrase “at any time” was ambiguous as to whether cause was required for his termination. The trial court held in favor of AWI and the court of appeal reversed. AWI appealed.
