Eastwood v. Superior Court
California Court of Appeal
149 Cal. App. 3d 409, 198 Cal. Rptr. 342 (1983)
- Written by Alex Ruskell, JD
Facts
Clint Eastwood (plaintiff) was a famous actor. The National Enquirer (defendant) published a story on the front cover of its newspaper with Eastwood’s picture stating that Eastwood was involved in a love triangle with actress Sondra Locke and singer Tanya Tucker. Eastwood sued, arguing that the story was false and that the Enquirer had invaded his privacy through commercial appropriation of his likeness. The Enquirer demurred, and the trial court sustained the demurrer. Eastwood appealed.
