Ex Parte Green
Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
688 S.W.2d 555 (1985)

Facts
On January 14, 1983, police officers observed 16-year-old Green (defendant) and an accomplice robbing and sexually molesting three women. The officers took Green into custody that night, and he was held in a juvenile detention center. Green was released on March 21, 1983, but was taken back into custody on August 23, 1983. After certification and transfer by the juvenile court for criminal prosecution, Green pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery. The district court sentenced Green to concurrent 10-year terms of imprisonment for the offenses but gave him credit for time he served after August 23, 1983. Green later filed a writ of habeas corpus in the district court, arguing that he should have received credit for the 67 days he spent in juvenile detention between January 14, 1983, and March 21, 1983. The district court denied relief on Green’s petition, and he appealed.
