The Federal Republic of Germany Federal Constitutional Court heard an appeal challenging the constitutionality of the laws permitting life sentences for certain crimes. The appellants argued that the current Criminal Code provisions on lifetime imprisonment violated Article 1.1 of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany.
