Facts
Gillman (plaintiff) sued Stern (defendant) for infringing a patent claiming a quilting machine, and Stern defended by alleging that the patented quilting machine was in fact invented prior to Gillman’s filing date by Haas. After hearing evidence on Haas’ prior machine, the District Court held the patent invalid, and Gillman appealed.
