Facts
On March 24, 1998, Andrew Golden (defendant) and Mitchell Johnson went to Westside Elementary School in Westboro, Arkansas. At that time, Golden was 11 years old. After arriving at the school, Golden and Johnson shot at students and teachers. Golden and Johnson killed four students and one teacher and wounded nine students and one teacher. The trial court did not assess whether Golden was competent to stand trial before adjudicating. Golden appealed to the Supreme Court.
