Goldline International v. Gold Line
World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center
Case No. D2000-1151 (2001)
- Written by Jenny Perry, JD
Facts
Goldline International, Inc. (Goldline) (complainant) registered the trademark “Goldline” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for ingots made from gold and other precious metals and for gold and silver coins. Loren Stocker d/b/a Gold Line Internet (Stocker) (respondent) registered the domain name goldline.com for his consulting business, which specialized in vanity toll-free phone numbers, domain-name addresses, and the creation of intellectual property. Goldline demanded that Stocker transfer the domain name. Stocker refused and put Goldline on notice that any further attempt to prosecute the matter would be abusive and would constitute reverse domain-name hijacking. Goldline disregarded Stocker’s warning and filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center, alleging that Stocker’s domain-name registration violated the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).
