Green v. Bryant
United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
887 F. Supp. 798 (1995)
- Written by Haley Gintis, JD
Facts
In December 1992, Dr. Winston Murphy Bryant (defendant) employed Philloria Green (plaintiff) to work at his doctor’s office. Green was hired as an at-will employee. In August 1993, Green was severely beaten, raped, and threatened at gunpoint by her estranged husband. Green sought medical treatment and then returned to work. At work, Green informed another doctor in the office about the incident. The doctor relayed the information to Bryant. Bryant then terminated Green’s employment. Green filed a suit against Bryant. Green claimed that Bryant had wrongfully discharged her in violation of the state’s public policy. Green alleged that Bryant told her that she was terminated because she was a victim of a violent crime. Bryant motioned to dismiss the wrongful-discharge claim.
