Greene v. Oliver Realty, Inc.
Pennsylvania Superior Court
526 A.2d 1192 (1987)
Facts
William Greene (plaintiff) worked for Grant Building, Incorporated. He agreed to work at a pay rate below the union rate, and Grant Building promised to employ Greene for life. In 1975, Oliver Realty, Incorporated (defendant) began managing Grant Building. Oliver Realty’s president assured the employees of Grant Building that Oliver Realty would honor their existing employment contracts. After Oliver Realty took over, Greene informed his supervisor about the terms of his employment agreement with Grant Building. The supervisor never followed up with Greene about the status of his employment contract. In 1983, Oliver Realty laid off Greene. Greene brought an action against Oliver Realty for breach of contract. Oliver Realty moved for summary judgment.
