Facts
Field Enterprises, Inc. (Field) (defendant) was a newspaper publisher in the Chicago area. Field published a classified-advertisement section that contained help-wanted listings under separate male and female headings. Pat Greenfield (plaintiff), a female member of the employment market in the Chicago area, brought suit. Greenfield contended that Field discriminated on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII). Field filed a motion to dismiss.
