Facts
Kellie Grotts (plaintiff) and her fiancé, John Colwell, were involved in a deadly car accident with Gertrude Zahner (defendant) that resulted in the death of Colwell. Grotts filed suit against Zahner seeking bystander emotional damages in connection with witnessing Colwell’s death. The trial court dismissed Grotts’s complaint because she was not in a familial relationship with Colwell. Grotts appealed.
